About us
VVD International contributes to a free and democratic world by strengthening liberal values through international cooperation.
For over 25 years, VVD International has been responsible for the foreign relations of the Dutch liberal party: People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). Our core mission is to promote and reinforce liberalism by building, maintaining, and deepening partnerships with like-minded political parties and organizations worldwide. VVD International focuses on three key pillars: political education, consultation, and participation.
VVD International designs and delivers training programs for (young) political leaders and party staff from liberal sister parties abroad. Drawing on the VVD’s extensive experience since its founding in 1948, these programs strengthen party capacity in areas such as campaigning, volunteer management, internal governance, talent development, digital engagement, and data-driven politics. Notable programmes are the Liberal International Democratic Training Academy (LIDTA) and the Liberal Leadership Academy: Europe (LLA), supported by trainers and experts from within the VVD.
Within Europe, the VVD is an active member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party (ALDE) and participates in the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament. Globally, the VVD is part of Liberal International and maintains strong relations with networks such as the Al Hurriya Liberal Network (AHLN) and the Liberal South East European Network (LIBSEEN).
Many of VVD International’s activities are carried out with support from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the MATRA and SHIRAKA funding programmes.
Mission I: Political Education
At VVD International, we believe a free world starts with well-trained people. Through our training academies like the Liberal Leadership Academy: Europe, the Liberal International Democratic Training Academy (LIDTA), and Studio Europe, we provide political talent with the tools to lead.
From Europe to the MENA region, we are investing in the backbone of democracy.
Mission II: Consultation
Since 1948, the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy has mastered the art of party organization. We do not keep that knowledge to ourselves.
VVD International consults trainers and experts to like-minded political parties and liberal organizations on the areas of campaigning, data research, volunteer management, bylaws, and talent development.
Mission III: Participation
“A Global Network for Freedom” VVD International bridges the global liberal community. From the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE Party) and Liberal International (LI) to the Al Hurriya Liberal Network (AHLN) and International Network of Liberal Women (INLW), we are actively participating for freedom and democracy on every continent.
