Summary of the Election Program in English.
Introduction
Tilburg and the villages of Berkel-Enschot, Udenhout and Biezenmortel together form a
municipality where life is good and people feel at home. A city and villages with their own
character, strong local businesses, an active community life and engaged residents. The
Tilburg VVD believes Tilburg is doing well, but can do even better. Less talk, more action.
In this summary we outline what we want to build in the coming years: housing, safety,
accessibility, entrepreneurship, vibrancy and a municipality that handles public money
wisely.
1. A pleasant home to live in
Housing is the greatest challenge of our time. Starters, families, seniors and students all
feel the impact of the housing shortage. For the Tilburg VVD, sufficient and affordable
housing is therefore the highest priority. We aim to double housing production and build
around 3,000 new homes per year. We will build both within the city and at its edges,
making clear choices in advance to speed up projects.
We enable smaller and more affordable homes, allow housing subdivision more easily and
ensure sufficient student housing. For labour migrants we provide decent housing at
appropriate locations, with strict enforcement against abuses. The reception of asylum
seekers is fair, within agreed limits and focused on participation of those with prospects.
2. Safety on the street, at home and online
Freedom only exists when people feel safe. Everyone in Tilburg should be able to be
themselves without intimidation or fear. We invest in visible enforcement, safe streets and
good lighting. Nuisance is tackled firmly and organised crime is fought hard, including
through the Tilburg ‘show-off crime’ approach: crime must not pay.
Online safety is also a priority. Digital crime is increasing and affects residents and
entrepreneurs alike. That is why we invest in cyber resilience and prevention. At the
intersection of care and safety we choose an integrated approach, so that people with
confused behaviour receive timely help and police capacity is relieved.
3. Accessibility for everyone
Tilburg must remain accessible for everyone: by car, bicycle, public transport and on foot.
We believe in freedom of choice: people decide for themselves how they travel. We
ensure that residents can always reach their homes by car and keep parking affordable.
Outside the city centre, the first two hours of parking will be free.
At the same time we invest in traffic safety, better cycling infrastructure and reliable public
transport for all neighbourhoods and villages. Sustainable alternatives such as shared
mobility are encouraged, but never forced.
4. Room to do business
Entrepreneurs are the beating heart of Tilburg. They create jobs, innovation and vitality.
The Tilburg VVD chooses space and trust. We reduce regulatory pressure, simplify
permits and keep local taxes as low as possible.
At least 140 hectares of additional business land will be developed so existing companies
can grow and start-ups get a real chance. The municipality thinks along and looks for
solutions rather than obstacles. A strong local economy is the foundation of a strong city.
5. A vibrant city centre, neighbourhoods and villages
Vibrancy makes Tilburg attractive. Events, culture, sports and hospitality bring people
together. We make organising activities easier and give room to initiatives in
neighbourhoods and villages.
The city centre remains accessible and appealing to residents and visitors. Sports clubs
and cultural initiatives are given space to grow, creating connection, pride and a strong
community throughout the municipality.
6. Careful with your money
The municipality works with taxpayers’ money. We handle it carefully. The Tilburg VVD
opts for a smaller, more efficient local government and makes clear choices. We stop
projects that cost a lot but deliver little.
In sustainability too, every euro counts. We invest only in measures with proven impact
and keep energy and housing affordable. This is how we build a future-proof Tilburg
without unnecessary burdens.
